I tried to break this habit with The List, and I've done very well, knowing exactly how the story is going to play out. It's been my first all-human story, and also interesting to write. I'm falling in love with the plot.
But, then something happened: I was sitting at my computer, looking through some jewelry with nothing else to do, and I saw a beautiful sapphire pink pendant. BAM! I was hit with an onslaught of ideas regarding this pendant, and what mysteries it could hold. Somewhere along the way, Bella's world got into my mind, and it became a fan fiction story.
So I wrote the prologue. As I did, the whole story unfolded before my eyes, and it was pretty amazing, so I jumped into it. It's my first attempt at the third-person point of view, and I really do happen to like it. I'm excited for this story, but also nervous since I kind of broke this new, healthier way to create stories that wouldn't flop.
I've never been one to get thousands of reviews for a story, but I am really happily surprised at how many people are already interested in it. Now I'm stuck trying to decide which story is really my 'baby': The List or The Pendant. Guess I'll just keeping writing both, and find out!
By the way, here's a picture of the pendant as I've seen it in my mind, or at least partially:
